The 8th Kürassier Tradition Continues in Germany

The “Tradition” (in American Military terms, the “lineage”) of the 8th Kürassier Regiment continues in Germany to this day.  Following World War II, the “Tradition” was transferred to Panzerbataillon 144/344, which was active from 1959 until 1992.  Unfortunately, the Pzbtl. 144/344 was de-activated following the collapse of the Cold War.  However, the Friends Association of Former Members of Pzbtl. 144/344 (Freundeskreis ehem. Angehörige Panzerbataillon 144 / 344 e.V.) continues to meet, and this Association maintains a small museum in Koblenz, Germany, where visitors can view artifacts and photographs from both units.

The Association’s homepage can be visited at:  www.pzbtl144-344.de .  To view the Association’s museum, click on “Tradition,” and again on “Traditionsraum.”  To read an article (in German) covering the visit of 8th Kür. Members to the museum in July 2005 click on the date to the right of “New”.  Then, click on the article “08.07.05—Reenactors zum Besuch beim Freundeskreis.”  Readers who cannot read German can use the Language Tools on Google’s website for a quick translation.
